Challenge Trophy 100 Results

Berkshire-based Chris Childerhouse claimed High Gun with 96×100 at the recent Challenge Trophy 100 CPSA-registered shoot at The Royal Berkshire Shooting School.

The self-employed gardener, who regularly shoots for England, commented: “As usual, it was a brilliantly run competition with some very tricky birds. I have been on a winning streak lately so I was delighted to also add the Challenge Trophy 100 to the list. Without doubt, RBSS is one of the best shooting grounds in the country and I am thankful to the team for putting on such a great competition.”

Nick Portlock claimed first prize in the AA Class, Gerry Springham and Chris Goodman claimed joint first prize in the A class, Paul Finney and Pete Bridger won joint first prize in the B class and Matt Scott won the C Class. Top Lady Gun was Cheryl Hall and Top Junior was Josh Brown. The prize fund included £400 for High Gun, with cash prizes to third place in all categories.

The three-day competition saw shooters presented with 100 sporting targets over 12 stands plus a 25-bird Compak for the Pool Shoot. RBSS’ course designer Robert Cross commented: “This was a back to basic 100-bird shoot with lots of variety. I combined difficult angles and speed to catch people out. Overall the competition ran very smoothly and felt very relaxed. Congratulations to everyone who took part and we look forward to seeing you again for our next competition.”

Competitors were treated to free refreshments all day plus a complimentary gun cleaning service, with discretionary donations going to Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. RBSS’ Managing Director Dylan Williams added: “When we created the Challenge Trophy last year with the CPSA, the idea was to host a registered shoot that raised the bar, which we are delighted to have achieved again this year. We wanted to create a stress-free environment that was void of the dreaded queues. Each squad was assigned one of our eight professional instructors to not only keep score but also explain the form and the targets on each stand. The feedback we received from competitors was phenomenal.”

Richard Worthington, the CPSA’s National Development Manager, was delighted the competition was such a resounding success: “Thanks to RBSS for holding another fantastic CPSA-registered shoot following the inaugural Challenge Trophy last year and huge congratulations to Chris for his outstanding score.”
